How to create WhatsApp Broadcasts

The WhatsApp Broadcasts enables you to send a single, templated message from your WhatsApp Business Account to a large number of contacts at once. This is ideal for sending announcements, marketing promotions, order updates, or event reminders efficiently and at scale.

A key requirement for using this feature is that all messages must be sent using pre-approved WhatsApp message templates. This ensures compliance with WhatsApp’s policies and provides a structured, reliable messaging format for your recipients.

Getting Started

To begin creating a broadcast from the left sidebar select the WhatsApp Broadcast menu item and then click on the New broadcast button.

In the New broadcast page follow these steps:

Step 1: Choose a Template

• Locate the “Choose a Template” combo box
• Click the selection button to view all available templates from your linked WhatsApp Business Account
• Select the appropriate template for your message (e.g., appointment_reminder, health_tip)

Step 2: Import Contacts from a CSV File

1. Click the “Import from CSV” button
2. A dialog window will open. Download the sample file by clicking the link for dental_office.csv (or the suggested file name). Use this file as a guide to format your CSV correctly
3. Prepare your CSV file following the sample structure

Important CSV formatting notes:

• In the CSV file, the column names must have the same name as the placeholders in the template preview
• The most important column is phone_number (in international format, e.g., 393331234567 without the + symbol or a leading 0)

4. Upload your CSV file by clicking “Choose File”

Step 3: Check Fields and Send

After importing the CSV file:

1. Check the fields in the Contacts section to ensure all data is correctly mapped
2. Review your template preview to confirm everything looks correct
3. Click on the “Send broadcast” button to send your WhatsApp broadcast

Your broadcast will be processed and sent to all contacts in your CSV file using the selected WhatsApp template.

Tips for Success

• Always use approved WhatsApp message templates
• Ensure phone numbers are in the correct international format
• Test with a small group first before sending to large audiences
• Keep your CSV file organized and check for any formatting issues before upload
